Do I need a GP referral to visit Auckland Gallbladder Surgery?
No, you usually don’t need to have a GP referral. However, your private health insurance may require one if you propose to claim
What is the initial consultation cost? Is it covered by insurance?
The cost for your initial consultation is $390. Whether or not this is covered by your insurance depends on your insurance policy and whether or not you proceed to surgery as a result of this consultation. We recommend you check your policy before booking an appointment with us.
What is the wait time for an appointment once I have been referred?
Auckland Gallbladder Surgery has developed a specialised gallstone service by streamlining the process from diagnosis to treatment and recovery. This means we aim to see all potential gallstone patients within 2-3 working days.
What can I expect once I have been referred to the surgery?
Once you have been referred to us, you can expect to receive:
- A form for routine blood tests sent to your local lab test facility
- A priority appointment given for the ultrasound within 7 days, if not already done
- A priority appointment with your specialist for clinical assessment within 7 days
If surgery is required, a date will be proposed (normally within 2 weeks of your initial consult).
Are there likely complications associated with this surgery?
Yes, complications can occur, as with any surgery. However, these complications are rare.
What does my post-surgery support look like?
Most patients are discharged from hospital the day after surgery. You will receive:
- Comprehensive discharge information including information on how to take care of yourself when you return home
- A post-operative appointment within 14 days of your surgery
- A full report will be provided to you and your GP if desired
