Weight loss medications
At Auckland Weight Loss Surgery we know that not everyone needs, or wants, an operation. Alongside surgery, we now provide a non-surgical pathway led by our Nurse Practitioner, Yvonne Morgan. Yvonne is experienced in medical weight management and works with our dietitians, psychologists, and surgeons to give patients joined-up care.
Losing weight is not simply about willpower. When the body senses weight loss, it reacts by increasing hunger and slowing metabolism. This is why so many people find themselves in a cycle of losing and regaining weight.
Medications such as Wegovy and Saxenda, now available in New Zealand, copy a natural hormone (GLP-1) that helps reduce appetite and slow digestion. Ozempic, which contains the same active ingredient, is not approved here for weight loss but is often searched for online. These medicines can support weight loss, especially when combined with nutrition, exercise, and behavioural changes.
Yvonne will work with you to see if medication is suitable, explain how to use it safely, and guide you on how to build it into your daily routine.
Weight loss medication may be suitable if you:
- need to reduce weight before surgery to lower risk or meet criteria
- are exploring non-surgical options as part of your weight management journey, or
- would benefit from moderate weight loss where surgery is not required.

If you’re thinking about weight loss medication and want to see if it’s right for you, our Nurse Practitioner Yvonne can help. She offers supportive, non-judgmental advice tailored to your needs and will help design a programme that fits your goals and lifestyle.
